St. Elmo's fire abounds, and rims all solid things, making "invisibility" impossible. Without "lightning protection" or "positive plane protection" or earplugs, visitors will be permanently deafened if they stay for more than a turn. There is also 1 chance in 8 per round that an unprotected visitor will be struck by lightning for 1d100. Visitors will be permanently blinded in one turn unless each brings special sunglasses or a modified "darkness" spell. The Tower of Storms is a refuge at the border of the positive energy plane.

The
Ministry of Elemental Good -- Lightning Ministers
Western writers, especially the authors of the classic myths,
saw in the power and focus of the lightning bolt an image for
divine retribution against special evildoers.
Ben Franklin's invention of the lightning rod even angered
some superstitious people who saw it as defeating
divine judgement.
By contrast,
the Muslim writer
Ahmad al-Ahsa'i described the ardors of the mystical
path: "He is encompassed by waves from above
and below, while jet clouds cast down lightning and thunder,
a lightning whose brilliance blinds onlookers."
