Only eight out of fifteen units (four must be pawns), plus the king, can actually capture. Sacrificing a non-capturer against a unit reveals whether it can capture. Non-capturers still give check and mate.
You choose first who will be your capturing pieces. You play white.
These are simple illustrations rather than strong opponents.
