Papillary Thyroid Cancer

This is a lobe of a thyroid gland from a patient with a small nodule.

The mass appears here as a slightly pale, clearly-demarcated mass with only a slightly infiltrating border. You can see it at the right of the first picture.

In the second picture, you can see a calcified sphere, or psammoma body, at the left. You can also appreciate that many of the nuclei have clear centers. Even with good papillations, we consider this a papillary carcinoma, and the prognosis to be most likely good.
